Seals for Automotive & EV applications

Our seal designs and materials meet the increasing demands of automotive applications and comply with a number of industry standards (PPAP Level 3, IATF 16949) and OEM specifications.

We design and supply seals for applications throughout the whole vehicle; including transmission, braking, cooling, fuel, air and exhaust management, battery, cable and ancillary systems.

Air induction, fuel and exhaust gas management (EGM)
Seals for high static or pulsating pressure and high-speed rotary applications. Seals designed from a range of material grades suitable for all modern E5 to E100 fuel grades, diesel and biodiesel, LPG, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust systems, gas and diesel powered after treatment systems (AdBlue®).

Braking systems
Materials suitable for DOT3, 4 and 5 fluids, seals designed and manufactured to the highest standards to maximise life expectancy of system critical components.

Cooling & lubrication systems
We have superior material grades for mineral oil and water/glycol cooling systems to meet the wide spectrum of temperature ranges required in these applications. Materials to seal against the demanding environment of synthetic based Polyalphaolefin (PAO) and ester-based oils for electric motor systems.

Transmission
Rotary seals for high-speed applications manufactured in PTFE and elastomeric materials for next generation fluids.

Chassis & suspension
Seals manufactured in abrasion and load resistant, high strength materials. PTFE seals manufactured for hydraulic and pneumatic active suspension systems.

Battery & electronics
Innovative dielectric silicone grades for cable grommet and battery enclosure applications for BEV and PHEV’s. A tried and trusted Push-In-Place (PIP) gasket design for effective sealing of housings.

Screen and headlight wash systems
Low temperature EPDM grades for cost effective seal designs with resistance to modern detergents.

HVAC
EPDM, Neoprene (TRADENAME) and HNBR grades for resistance to modern Freon based refrigerants with extended life expectancy in HVAC seal designs.

Hydrogen
Seal designs and materials suitable for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen internal combustion engines (ICE).

Our engineers use 3D CAD and FEA simulation software to design and replicate automotive seal performance before finalising each seal design; incorporating significant feature and critical function elements for integration with customer mating parts. We offer material development and testing, and a component endurance testing service.

O-Rings

Manufactured to international standards; AS568, ISO 3601, DIN 3771 and JIS, with metric and non-standard sizes also available. Produced in Nitrile (NBR), Silicone (VMQ), Fluorocarbon (FKM), Fluorosilicone (FVMQ), Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), Polyacrylate (ACM), Ethylene Acrylate (AEM) elastomers. Our precision O-rings can be manufactured in materials that meet VW, Ford, DBL, GM approvals. We can supply O-rings with surface treatments in the form of dry or wet coatings for reducing friction, ease of installation or colour identification. These coatings are PTFE or thermoplastic, silicone and mineral oils, and MolykoteTM.

Rotary Seals

Our rotary shaft seals with elastomeric based lips include Nitrile (NBR), Fluorocarbon (FKM), Carboxylated Nitrile (XNBR), Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR), Ethylene Propylene (EPDM), Polyacrylate (ACM), Silicone (VMQ) and Neoprene (CR). For applications with enhanced speed and pressure parameters, we offer either seals with PTFE inlays, or full PTFE lip seals that reduce friction, heat generation and optimise shaft and seal life. With a variety of casing and spring materials available, we offer all variants of elastomer seal, including cassette and springless, and also V-Rings for light duty. Our PTFE rotary seals can be metal cased or all PTFE.

PIP Gaskets

We specialise in the design and manufacture of precision rubber gaskets and seals, including push-in-place gaskets to address difficult assembly conditions. Designed specifically for each application, our experienced engineers optimise the seal profile geometry using calculations on groove fill, compression and installed squeeze or stretch, combined with non-linear FEA technology to simulate the performance before finalising the design. We provide rapid prototyping and 3D printing to meet your test requirements before cutting production tools. Available in all elastomer compounds, including grades that meet international standards or customer specifications.

PTFE Seals & Engineered Plastics

Our PTFE cap seals are available for rod, piston, and rotary applications, and can be manufactured in a variety of virgin or filled PTFE and elastomer material combinations. Standard seal sizes are for installation in grooves to ISO7425-2 and we can manufacture bespoke sizes and profiles as required, ranging from 3mm to 3200 mm in diameter. PTFE seals with helical, cantilever or canted coil spring energisers can be tailored to any existing customer groove geometry and in numerous jacket material and spring material combinations. Alongside PTFE seals, we offer a range of PEEK and UHMWPE seal profiles, and PTFE and PEEK back-up rings in a variety of materials and designs including solid, split and contoured profiles.

Bespoke Mouldings

We design and manufacture precision bespoke mouldings in all elastomer materials and can offer a full design service or advise on tolerances, hardware interference and material choice for cases where the design work has already been undertaken. We can validate the design with non-linear FEA and can offer rapid prototyping and 3D printing before cutting production tools. We offer custom components that include metal-rubber bonded parts in addition to two-shot moulded parts with TPE elastomers moulded to rigid plastics in a continuous moulding process.

We supply the full range of standard bonded washers for banjo and pipe fitting applications, including thread sealing and self centering versions. All elastomer options are available, with the most common being NBR, FKM and EPDM. Materials for the metal washer can be chosen to suit the corrosive conditions of the application, with stainless steel and zinc plated steel again being most common. Bespoke designs can be supplied, including edge bonded seal plates which use similar design and manufacturing techniques to seal multiple cavities between manifolds and valve blocks.
